Political Strategist · Campaign Leader
He builds and runs national campaigns. He has spent over a decade leading field programs of hundreds of organizers, raising millions of dollars for movement organizations, and winning two fights Washington had written off: the first impeachment of Donald Trump and the end of the war in Afghanistan. Since 2023 he has worked on the politics of artificial intelligence.
Alexander has spent the past year working full-time on AI politics: as the founding head of the left coalition at Humans First, then helping found its successor organization, Irreplaceable. His focus is where AI meets working people. His AI work began in 2023, when he advised New York State Senator Kristen Gonzalez, chair of the Senate Technology Committee, on AI regulation.

“If the AI safety community does not take seriously the necessity to engage in capital-P politics, its concerns will be left out.”
“On April 13, 2021, the day before Biden was to address the country about Afghanistan, a 33-year-old Marine Corps veteran named Alex McCoy received a call from a White House speechwriter…”
